VCAE Website Review

June K McFee video ( from 1995, wow! )): What are the most important things discussed that are still relevant today in regards to Art Education and Visual Culture? In the "Zinester: Art of Individualism" video: Have you heard of "Zines" before?  What do you think about the Zine Library? What do you think of the concept of consumers/producers? Would you find the creation of a Zine an appropriate topic/project to explore in your classroom? In the "Beginning a Lesson" Video: What information from this video is of interest to you for your classroom? Do you find the "Arguments 1-4" valid concepts to explore Visual Culture in the classroom? How might you use these in your classroom? 1.) It's important because visual culture is everywhere and kids are seeing things all day long that effect their views on themselves and life. 2.)yes 3.)It's helpful to see what people post and what they say about things 4.)I think it...

Observation Discussion 1

What types of observations did my peers make that were similar to mine? How and why are they similar? What types of observations did my peers make that were different to mine?  How and why are they different? Did you find the discussion with your peers of your observation experience helpful to you as a future art educator? In your next observation hours to complete (for this class or others), will you view things differently? If no, why? If yes, why? 1.) Something similar from the observation of me and some of my peers was the ability of the teacher to control the room. Nobody talked about any behavioral issues, and a few people made comments on how they admired the teacher for controlling the class. 2.) Most of my peers observed more usage of technology in the classroom, such as computer labs, ipads, and 3D printers. However, the teach I observed didn't use technology often. She only used it to project dojo points and play music. 3.) Yes, the discussion...

The Art of Failure

What are the similarities between the artists interviewed in this article? What are the differences?  Is there anything discussed in this article that you can relate to? Do you believe that taking risks and pushing boundaries is important to the creative process? Why or why not? Do you experience fear of failure? When? How do you think it has impacted you positively or negatively? How do you think you can support your students as their teacher when they encounter the "fear of failure"? http://arts.gov/sites/default/files/nea_arts/NEA%20Arts_2014_no4_web.pdf 1.) Each artist at some point was afraid of failing but pushed through and just did whatever it was that they were afraid of failing at. However, the journey to get there was different between the artists.  2.) I can relate to the part about finding balance of thinking you're tremendous and thinking you're horrible is relatable because it's something I struggle with. Expect, I am not over confide...

Art Room Newsletter

1. Do you think creating a classroom newsletter is an effective way to communicate with your audience? Why or Why Not? I think it can be effective because usually things with pictures make it easier for kids to read and grab their attention. 2. What did you think about the process of creating a newsletter using Adobe Creative Suite Tools? It's frustrating and time consuming but very useless.  3. How did this project strengthen your digtial /new media skills? This helped me organize text in an artistic, new way.

More Human Than Human

Based on the video, "More Human Than Human?" 1. What are the most interesting discoveries you made watching this video? The human body is fascinating to all people. It also has been idealized to the point of unrealistic standards. 2. What do you think about  Vilayanur S. Ramachandran  theory with the chicks? The red strips are similar to the Venus of Willendorf because they are based on features that are desired the most and which are considered the most important. This was really interesting to me because we always want an extreme to what is desired. So, naturally the more red strips that are visible the more the chicks want it. Likewise, the curvier a woman is, the more desired she is.  3. Do you see any connection between the art/subjects  in this video ( Venus of Willendorf , the  Herring gull  chicks, Egyptian  images of the human body,   Kritian Boy ) and the way the human body is portrayed today? Yes. The art shown represen...
