module 12
1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
I chose the Andy Warhol video as my first video because I love his work, and I wanted to watch a video about him to learn more about him.The second video I chose was on Henry Moore because I don't know much about him.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
The video about Andy Warhol was informative. The main thing discussed was this concept called "Silk Screening" which was a signature technique Warhol used to create colorful pop culture prints. The use of repetition is also a signature "trademark" of Warhol's work, like the soup cans. The repetition is to mimic the visual culture we are fed every day and the impact seeing something so many times has.
From the Henry Moore video, I learned family was a major concept throughout his work. He used the image of a mother and child very often. Henry Moore was influenced by human connection, and through abstraction, he \ represented his emotions towards family bonds and connections. He especially focused on the bond a mother has with her.
3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos express individualism, modern art and post modern art. The transition between the movements and styles is discussed in the reading and displayed throughout the videos.
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
I enjoyed watching films about modern artists. The videos gave a clear message on what the artists wanted to say in their art and how they achieved that. The videos go into detail about the specific journey each artist experienced in order to find their voice through visual art.
