1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
When sculpting aesthetic is obviously an important part in the final product, but also the material to be used, and the structural elements that will serve as support against gravity. Material is determined by aesthetic, location (indoor or outdoor), and expenses. Since sculpture can be made very large, there are many steps that can be taken to plan for the final project. These steps could include (but are not limited to): a sketch, a clay model, and a  plaster model. Sometimes models are made in multiple scales and multiple times. Marble is a prominent final material for sculpture due to its value from the ancient master artisans. Extracting marble is extremely dangerous and can result in death. It takes many people to create a marble sculpture. It is a team effort rather than a single sculptor.
Glass is a product of sand, silica sand to be more specific. Making and coloring class is a very chemical process. Glass is fired at least twice, first to shape, then to harden and make more durable. Stained glass windows are made out of already colored glass. They are pre-planned on small and life sized sketches and colored closer to the final stages. Templates are made from a life size final sketch and the shapes of glass are cut using said templates. The pieces are put together using led strips and covered with putty to protect the window from the elements. Glass is becoming more and more prominent in society, slowly replacing stone in architecture.
Ceramics quality varies based on the raw material and the firing temperature. Most mass produced ceramic products are made in molds, and then fired when dry. Glazing is done to add shine and protect the piece from the elements. It can add color or be clear. Ceramics are used everywhere, from a household kitchen to a medical procedure

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
Both videos provide in depth details on the process of sculpture in many different materials, as does the Chapters 11 and 12 in the text. Just as we are shown in “Through the Eyes of a Sculpture” the text covers the entire process of sculpture with paragraphs on modeling, casting, carving, and assembling. The text also takes time to express the personal decisions of selected artists in their works which is interesting. Chapter 12 specifically focuses on functional works such as bowls, vases, and decorative figurines. This provides a better visual for items people have used or may use in their day to day life.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics: Sculpture, Installation, and Craft?

Both videos not only define different versions of sculpture but provide visual examples and a thorough explanation of the entire process. “Through the Eyes of a Sculptor” showed the process of creating a marble statue from conception to the final product. It was very informative on the methods of creation and the artists personal insight. It was my favorite of the two videos for that reason of personal touch. “Glass and Ceramics” was a dryer, more scientific version of the commercial production of glass and ceramic items. Very informative in the raw materials and scientific processes that happen from raw material to processed good.
